The UNICO mission is to promote a positive image of Italian Americans, one of the largest ethnic groups in the nation by celebrating the significant contributions and achievements of Italian Americans in the United States. The more than 16 million Italian Americans are interwoven into the fabric of the United States, firmly patriotic Americans who have profoundly contributed to our nation in all areas including the arts, business, law, science, medicine, technology, innovation, national defense, and public service.

UNICO National Gala Dinner in metro Washington, DC on Saturday, March 25, 2023 Promotes the Sturdy Bond Between the United States and Italy and Celebrates the Significant Contributions of Italian Americans
The event underscores and promotes the strong and enduring relationship between the United States and Italy. UNICO recognizes distinguished Italian Americans and Italians who have excelled in their respective field and contributed at the highest level.
Popular media duo in the nation’s capital region to host UNICO Gala on 3/25! Well known and highly regarded media personalities, Erin Como, Fox 5 DC, and Nick Iannelli, WTOP, will cohost the upcoming UNICO National Gala in metro Washington, DC. Erin Como is an anchor/reporter with Fox 5 DC and familiar face on the Good Day DC daily morning program. She is proud to cover the fitness and food scene in the nation's capital. Erin also hosts the popular 'Cooking With Como' series and is a co-host of the new hit show, 'LION Lunch Hour' airing daily at 11am. Nick Iannelli is a well known reporter on WTOP, Washington DC’s most listened to station, where he covers breaking news. Proud of his 100 percent Italian ancestry, Nick is originally from Milwaukee and is also a CBS News contributor. They are excited to participate in the UNICO Gala and to support our important nonprofit mission!

The honorees are Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Andrea Piccioli, Director of the Istituto Superiore
di Sanità (ISS) in Italy. They will be recognized for their public health service leadership.
Dr. Fauci recently retired after a long, productive public service career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which began in 1984 during the Ronald Reagan Administration. Dr. Fauci served during seven presidential administrations and retired in 2022.
Dr. Andrea Piccioli heads the Italian ISS, headquartered in Rome, Italy, which provides a similar function to the United States’ NIH.

The UNICO National mission is to promote the image of Italian Americans along with Italian heritage and culture by supporting charitable, scientific, cultural, educational, and literary projects.
The men and women of our many chapters across the country devote their time, energy and resources to serve their local communities. They also support UNICO National causes such as scholarships, Cooley’s Anemia, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Cancer Prevention and Research.
Founded in 1922 by Dr. Anthony P. Vastola in Waterbury, Connecticut to unite people of Italian heritage in an organization to perform charitable, patriotic and educational deeds.
UNICO’s motto is “Service Above Self”. UNICO means “unique” or “only one of its kind” in Italian and additionally, the letters represent: U-Unity, N-Neighborliness, I-Integrity, C-Charity and O-Opportunity.
